Tech Talk for Therapists
Participants will be given an overview of neuroplasticity and the ways that neural pathways are impacted by repeated behaviors. The effect of increased access to dopamine and brain patterns will be addressed and applied to understand changing habits associated with frequent technology usage. Using recent research, the connection between increased accessibility of technology and higher levels of anxiety, depression, and isolation will be presented. The role of therapists in assessing possible adverse effects of this exposure and helping clients understand the risks of unrestricted use will be discussed. Methods for providing psychoeducation and incorporating therapeutic goals into treatment that will help clients achieve healthy balance in their use of technology will be identified.
